We had to find the balance that worked for us. My wife’s career was taking off, I had ambitions to run my own business, and we wanted more flexibility. So, it just made sense for me to transition away from my full time corporate gig to focus on growing my business and prioritizing our family and my wife’s career.

MY STORY

Entrepreneur | Candle Guy | Dad

Adam Dickens founded Dickens Candles in 2016 by drawing inspiration from coffee, beer & Saturday Mornings. He set out to make a candle you can feel good about that was sustainable and handmade. Using his maker skills and creativity, he developed the concept of hand poured soy wax candles in upcycled beer bottles.

The company was founded while Adam was working a full time job as a marketing manager. As his businesses expanded, so did his family. Adam has 3 kids under 8 and a supportive wife who is a successful corporate executive. With a growing business and responsibilities, Adam made the choice to step away from his full time job and make the leap into the life of entrepreneurship. In addition to growing his business, stepping away from his corporate role gave him the flexibility to support his wife’s career. Being the primary caretaker as a dad, or “Stay at Home Dad” as many call it, definitely puts him in the minority at the park and at playdates. But, he is proud to support his wife’s success and continue his entrepreneurial pursuits. It also gives him extra time to coach his kids' baseball/softball teams!

Adam explained, “We had to find the balance that worked for us. My wife’s career was taking off, I had ambitions to run my own business, and we wanted more flexibility. So, it just made sense for me to transition away from my full time corporate gig to focus on growing my business and prioritizing our family and my wife’s career.”

Dickens Candles has built sustainability into every aspect of its candles. The hand poured candles feature upcycled bottles, 100% renewable American grown soy wax, and strong but not overpowering scents. Dickens Candles are crafted in Elmhurst, Illinois with scents and containers that compliment the décor of your home. He compliments his sustainable candles by shipping them with reused packing paper, biodegradable packing peanuts and plant based tape.
